HP is one of the largest manufacturers of PC’s in the entire world and its Pavilion line is hence one of the more well known lines of entertainment and consumer oriented laptops and desktops. The Pavilion DV6-6120us is one of the more affordable models available in this range and it provides an all round performance for the average consumer’s basic entertainment needs. Equipped with an Intel Core i3-2310M processor along with 4GB of DDR3 RAM, it is quite adequate for all your basic computing and multimedia needs.
Graphics is handled by Intel’s onboard HD Graphics 3000 that can have up to 1696MB memory shared from the main memory. Coupled with the 15.6” LED backlit display with a native resolution of 1366×768, this makes for a good movie watching experience whilst on the move. This laptop is quite enough for playing HD movies and streaming them online. With WiDi onboard the DV6-6120us, the laptop can wirelessly transmit full HD signals to HDTV’s, HD projectors and other compatible external displays. This eliminates the need to run long HDMI cables through your home. Also, since WiDi is part of the wireless technology onboard, there’s no need to plug in dongles either. This saves USB ports for more important devices to be plugged in when necessary. All you need is a Netgear WiDi adapter called Push2TV for enabling your TV or projector to receive the wireless signals, which is sold separately.
The onboard graphics is also enough to play 3D games, which can be transmitted via WiDi over to your HDTV for a better gaming experience. The DV6 is branded with the Beats Audio mark, highlighting its high quality audio processing, which makes it better equipped for an all round entertainment experience.
The laptop’s processing power sails through most common multitasking and some processing-intensive tasks like Photoshop. You can easily surf on multiple tabs, play music and edit documents at same time whithout slowing the laptop down too much. However, it will not be adequate for heavier tasks like video editing.
The DV6-6120us comes equipped with Wireless-N high speed WiFi network support with backward compatibility with Wireless-b and g (802.11b/g/n). The battery life is rated at 6 hours but in real life scenarios, you can expect somewhere around 4-5 hours with copious wireless usage, medium brightness and multiple applications open.
Other features include a SuperMulti DVD burner, a sleek looking brushed aluminum body, a fingerprint reader for added security, webcam and a multi-card reader. HP also includes its SimplePass Identity protection and ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection software.
Some of the buyers seem to have had some troubles getting through to HP’s customer care to fix manufacturing defects in their delivered units. Other than that, they are mostly happy with the responsive keyboard, touchpad and the card readers. The heat vents are also placed in way that helps the laptop tp run cooler when placed on the lap.
